Most of us mainly think with a mixture of images or pictures coupled with the things we say to ourselves and it is this mental activity that is one of the main generators of our feelings and emotions.

Become aware of your thoughts and you can begin to manage them which means you can directly influence how you feel and how you behave. We have been talking to ourselves continually since we learned to speak which means we have been programming our behaviours all our life. And because this process have been going on for so long, there are many people who are even unaware of this continual internal dialogue that goes on and on inside each and every one of us. (more…)

There is an interesting article in the Daily Telegraph on page 15 today (21st May 2009) telling the story of a 35 year old woman who lost nearly 4st (that’s 56 lbs) by being hypnotized into believeing she had a Gastric Band. It took 5 sessions and her dress size fell from a size 22 to a size 14

Help for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

I feel rather disappointed that many of our heroes are retuning from tours of duty suffering from PTSD and are being offered limited help by ‘the system’ if any at all. Why is it that ‘the system’ seems unable to help with PTSD effectively?

One of the symptoms of PTSD is the continuous flashbacks that occur – totally unexpectantly. Why is this? I believe the answer can be found in the Reconsolidation Theory published by Joseph LeDoux, one of the world’s leading neuroscientists. (more…)
